Job One Training: Let’s Explore a Painting!

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of Grande Jatte
Georges Seurat
Oil on Canvas 1884-1886

Georges Seurat painted this famous oil on canvas painting and it is one of his most famous pieces. Seurat used a technique know as Pointillism: a technique where the artist uses small dots of various colors to form an image. This technique requires a lot of patience and concentration.

In this painting, can you answer the following?

  • How does this painting make you feel?
  • What is your favorite part of the painting?
  • Where do you think this scene is located in the world?
  • What time of day do you think it is?
Try it!

Can you try Seurat’s technique of Pointillism?

Try out making dots in the gumball machine outline. You can use markers, pens or a bingo dauber! Don’t forget to sign your masterpiece and share a picture with the group!
