Since 1945, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) has been observed every October to shred light on disability employment issues and celebrate the many contributions of workers with disabilities. The theme for 2019 is “The Right Talent, Right Now.”
Job One kicked off NDEAM this year with a visit from County Executive and former Kansas City Royals second baseman Frank White Jr.,who is recognized as a Job One Advocacy Champion. White took a tour of our Packaging & Assembly facility in Independence, met with employees and posed for pictures. It was a great way to celebrate all the accomplishments of our hard-working employees.
This month is a good time to reflect on the many ways you can help support adults with disabilities in the the workplace. Whether it’s advocating for disability rights, making a contribution to a charitable cause or hiring people with disabilities to work at your company, October is a time to take action.
At Job One, we’re on a mission is to build skills and connections that create employment opportunities for people with disabilities. For over 50 years, we’ve been envisioning a world where people with disabilities are active participants in the labor force.
