Job One Training: Slips, Trips, and Falls

Did you know?

Falls are the third leading cause of unintentional injury related deaths.  We tend to think we are always safe on flat ground, but thousands of injuries occur each year. Falls are the #1 cause of deaths for older people.

Ways to avoid slips, trips, and falls:

  • Keep floors free of clutter (watch out for throw rugs (trip hazard).
  • Keep cabinets and desk drawers closed.
  • Keep electrical, computer cords out of traffic areas.
  • Install handrails on stairways.
  • Wear sensible footwear (foot pain may also cause falls).
  • Never stand on chairs, tables or any surfaces with wheels.
  • Properly arrange furniture to create open pathways.
  • Maintain good lighting indoors and out.
